Day 3: Baie Comeau to Labrador City

Day3: Lets go to Labrador City
We filled up our extra 20L gas can for the next leg of our journey.  Our trip takes us north on Hwy 389 past the massive hydroelectric dam called Manic 5, The Eye of Quebec (the funny circle thing), through empty remote terrain, and finally to Labrador City.

The road is bumpy, but paved to the Manic 5 dam.  The dam was constructed in the 1960s and is part of series of hydroelectric dams that provides 99% of Quebec's power. At the visitor's centre we took the short 30min tour to learn about its history.  After Manic 5, the road turns to gravel and as we pushed further north the road starts deteriorating quickly.  Transport trucks create huge clouds of smoke when passing, and makes it difficult to see the road. Also, since there's no cell signal, there were randomly placed phone booths, but as they are 50-75 km apart, not sure how useful they would have been if we needed them?

After 5 hours of driving on mixed pavement and gravel, we were relieved to finally arrive in Labrador City.  Our hotel is actually in Wabush, a town just 5km away from Labrador City.

Also forgot that there is a 1 hr time difference, so ended up arriving at 7pm at our hotel.
Tomorrow we make our drive to Happy Valley Goose Bay.
